Some people say to me "Dave, you work a boat load of hours, play in a band, write a few different blogs and do all that fashion modeling and crime fighting, how do you do it?" My reply? Coffee...lots and lots of coffee. So imagine how excited I was to here that a new study has shown that drinking large amounts of coffee (5-6 cups per day) can reduce the risk of developing lethal prostate cancer in men by 60%. (There is also preliminary evidence that there is a reduction in breast cancer for women too, but this study was mainly about the man parts.) What's next, donuts curing obesity? OK, maybe I'm dreaming but this is still amazing news for us coffee-holics. And don't worry if drinking a gallon or two per day like me is not your cup of tea (get it?). Smaller amounts of coffee daily will reduce your risk by smaller amounts. It would seem like each cup equals about 10% of reduction in risk, so 3 cups would be a 30% reduction in risk, etc. And I already know your next question, "So Dave, if I drink 10 cups per day does that reduce the risk by 100% and essentially inoculate me from this all-too-common disease?" Well, I'm not a doctor but I don't think it works that way. But, I bet you'll get a heck of a lot done in a day.
While we're on the subject, recently I fell in love with the taste of my friend Joe's coffee that he makes in his french press. I had to have this in my life so I did what any retail-averse American male does, I told my girlfriend about it. She hopped on Amazon.com and searched french presses. You can find the one Joe uses here. But, being an over-analyzer on the hunt for the ultimate analog coffee making device, Deb kept looking until she found this little beauty:
It's called the AeroPress and it make delicious coffee and espresso! (You can see it on Amazon by clicking on the picture or by clicking right here.) It kind of looks like a giant syringe, mainly because it's basically a giant syringe. But not only is it a giant syringe, it's a giant syringe that shoots delicious coffee out of it. It really does make a great cup of coffee if you follow the included instructions. The only thing I would add is that you can probably use just a little bit less coffee than the instructions recommend.
And if you want to keep it warm for your entire commute, pour it into an awseome Tervis Tumbler insulated travel mug and you've got the perfect cup of Joe to go. You're all set to keep your coffee warm and your prostate cancer-free. And hey, now that you're going to live a little longer, can you please let me merge into your lane?
